Our Story

15 Years Helping People Choose Coverage Confidently

We're an independent agency — not tied to any one carrier — so our advisors recommend what actually fits your life, your family, and your business.

Chapter one · how we got here

A CFP, a denied application, and a spreadsheet that became a company.

In late 2022, our co-founder Lena — a CFP running a $180M solo RIA — applied for a standard PPO during open enrollment. Her income was strong, her health was clean, her credit was spotless. The application came back the next morning with three words in red: income not verifiable.

Her income was variable, draw-based, and tied to AUM. The carrier's underwriting model — built for W-2 employees of Fortune 1000s — had no row for it. She was offered a plan with a $14,200 deductible and a network that excluded her primary care doctor.

That afternoon, Lena and her business partner Marcus opened a spreadsheet titled "plans that don't hate 1099". Eighteen months later, that spreadsheet became Advisor Shield Health.

The practice we built for

Solo RIAs, two-to-eight-advisor firms, insurance agents going independent, fee-only CFPs, hybrid OSJs, and the staff that sits inside all of them. If your income is partly tied to what you produce, we built this for you.

II.

How we operate

We are paid by the carrier at the same rate regardless of which plan we place. No carrier ownership, no preferred-vendor contracts, no production quotas. Every strategist is a licensed agent with E&O coverage. Renewal reviews are calendared, not solicited.

III.

Who stands behind the coverage

We are appointed with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Oscar, Kaiser Permanente, Delta Dental, VSP, MetLife, Guardian, Ameritas, Aflac, and Transamerica — across health, dental, vision, supplemental, and disability lines in all 50 states.

— Five principles, no asterisks

The rules we wrote before we wrote a single policy.

Advisor Shield Health was started by two ex-RIA operators who spent a decade buying their own health insurance the wrong way. These five lines are the answer to "why does this exist?"

  1. 01

    Underwriting that understands 1099 income

Variable commissions, AUM-tied draws, deferred comp — we route your application to carriers whose underwriters won't blink at a non-W-2 cover page.

  2. 02

    Schedule C-friendly plan structures

Every recommendation is paired with a deduction map: what flows to your 1040, what stays on the firm's books, what your CPA will thank you for.

  3. 03

Coverage that travels with your book

Switching broker-dealers, going independent, merging into an OSJ — your plan does not need to be re-shopped from scratch every time the shingle changes.

  4. 04

One advisor, not a call-center carousel

The licensed strategist who writes your initial quote is the same person who answers your email in February when a claim gets weird.

  5. 05

Renewal reviews on your fiscal calendar

We schedule the annual review around your Q4 client-meeting blitz and tax-planning sprint — not whenever the carrier feels like sending a postcard.

What advisors actually tell us after the policy ships.

I went independent in 2023 and spent four months trying to buy health insurance the same way I'd buy it for a client. It was humiliating. Advisor Shield Health closed my plan in eleven days and routed every premium dollar through the right entity on my books. My CPA actually said thank you.

"We rolled our six-advisor firm onto a single Advisor Shield Health plan structure with carve-outs for the two partners. Renewal review showed up on my calendar three weeks before I'd have thought to ask. Refreshing."

"Transitioning from a captive insurance shop to fee-only meant losing group benefits overnight. Advisor Shield Health bridged the gap, kept my doctor in-network, and didn't pretend my new income was W-2."
